A great restaurant in the Glen Cove area that is small and cozy is called American Caf.Just a block or so from the Glen Cove movie theater, it is a great place to go either before or after the movies.Since the restaurant is a bit small with only 12 tables, there is sometimes a wait to have dinner especially on the weekend.
The dcor is very nice with decorations of American art and crafts all over the walls. The wait staff always appears eager to serve with a small on their faces, which is very refreshing to the customer. The Caf serves good quality food that is very filling and yet not too expensive.
There is a decent wine list with prices starting at five dollars per glass. For appetizers, you can order the New England corn and clam chowder, which is extremely creamy, but tasty.The main courses are a list of what your grandmother may have made for you when you were growing up. Some of the favorites are chili, chicken pot pie, meatloaf and macaroni and cheese, which are all good types of comfort food.
If you are looking for a lighter entre and possibly more healthy, American Caf has turkey burgers, grilled salmon and various salads.There are also other less healthy, standard items like hamburgers with a large mound of french fries.To finish off your meal, the Caf offers a nice selection of desserts, one of which is german chocolate cake covered with pecans, a very good choice.Other good dessert options are bread pudding, chocolate cake and carrot cake.
